What each number means
Spec sheets use a lot of short codes. Here's what each one tells you, in plain English.
Visible light transmission
How much light gets through. Lower is darker: 5% is limo dark, 70% is light.
Total solar energy rejected
The best single number for heat. The higher it is, the cooler your cabin stays.
IR energy rejection
How much of the sun's infrared heat (780 to 2500nm) the film stops, counting heat the film absorbs and gives off.
Selective IR rejection
The share of infrared that doesn't pass straight through the glass. It's the heat you feel on your skin.
UV rejection
Blocks UV rays (300 to 380nm) that fade your interior and burn your skin. Every FormulaOne film blocks over 99%.
Glare reduction
How much less bright light reaches your eyes. Higher means less squinting into the sun.
Visible light reflection
How mirrored the glass looks from outside. Low numbers keep the factory look.
FormulaOne performance data by shade
Pick a series to see every shade. The shade number is the film's name; VLT is how much light actually gets through once it's on clear glass.

Highlighted shade: the most heat rejection in that series.
Same darkness, very different heat
At almost the same shade, Stratos rejects 66% more solar energy than Classic. That gap is why we install only Pinnacle and Stratos.
Total solar energy rejected
Selective IR rejection
All four films let through 38 to 39% of visible light. Maroon bars are the films we install.
Picking a legal shade in California
Darker doesn't always mean cooler: nearly clear Stratos 70 rejects 49% of solar energy, more than limo-dark Classic 05 at 44%. And not every shade is legal on every window. Here's how it breaks down. Full details are in our California window tint laws guide.
Front side windows
California needs at least 70% of light to pass through the glass and film combined. Factory glass already blocks some light, so we measure yours before we recommend anything for the front windows.
Rear side and back glass
Any shade is legal as long as the car has both side mirrors. Most drivers pick 15% to 35% for privacy and heat. The 05 shades are limo dark.
Windshield
Only a clear, non-reflective strip above the AS-1 line, usually the top 4 to 5 inches. It cuts sunrise and sunset glare.

Values are measured to NFRC guidelines on single-pane, nominal 1/4 inch (6mm) clear glass. They come from representative samples and can vary with manufacturing. Real results depend on your vehicle's glass. IRER counts all solar infrared heat (780 to 2500nm), including absorbed and re-radiated energy. SIRR counts solar infrared (780 to 2500nm) that doesn't pass straight through the glass. Glare reduction values are calculated and can differ slightly between similar films because of averaging and rounding.
